Live Well Bloom is a family run well-being and yoga centre. Husband and wife, James and Ruth McDonald, are the founders and their aim is to inspire health and well-being through yoga, food intolerance management, outdoor activities, nature and creativity
Ruth studied Applied Psychology, at PhD level, in Health Related Quality of Life of people with Coeliac Disease. She began her educational journey in midwifery and then branched into education (Early Childhood), child psychopathology, communication with students with Autism Spectrum Disorder, child nutrition and adult nutrition. Her academic background has covered medical and educational areas which have concluded in studying at a doctorate level, researching food allergies and intolerances. Ruth has been trained in intolerance testing under Dr. Jennifer Daly M.B., B.A.O., B.Ch., Lic.Ac., L.F.Hom., Dip. reflexology, who carried out food intolerance testing for 25 years. Ruth’s aim is to bring a holistic and balanced approach to coping with intolerances and self-care. She personally carries out Food Intolerance Testing in a calm and cozy setting.
Ruth is a qualified 200hour RYT yoga teacher and has completed Yin Yoga Training in addition. Her passion lies within the yogic lifestyle and how it can help with anxiety, stress, digestive issues, sleep and gaining perspective through depression. Her classes are inspired by healing the gut, relieving stress, self-care, awareness and self-love. Yoga happens on and off the mat, all we have to do is open our minds and our hearts.
Ruth is qualified in Sculpture, Combined Textiles and design. Mindful Creativity Workshops begin in September 2019. These workshops combine creativity, self-expression and meditation through the medium of felting, ceramics, plasterwork and combined materials.
James is an RYT200 qualified yoga teacher, yin yoga instructor and SoundWorks Practitioner. He combines his passions for yoga, music and meditation to create beautiful classes incorporating all three. James has studied with Quaternity Yoga, Josh Summers, Celtic School of Sound Healing and is now teaching Gentle Yoga and music meditation, Sports Yoga and Crystal Bowl Soundbaths. During these classes and soundbaths James plays an arrangement of seven crystal bowls to support deeper healing, balance and wellness.
James was immersed in music from a young age, singing in choirs and playing with groups. He then studied Music in University College Cork, exploring ethnic traditions, jazz, pop, sound art and experimental music. On this journey he discovered the world of North Indian classical music through sitar, which lead to further study of eastern philosophy and traditions.
James now brings all of this experience into his classes from deep, explorative Gentle Yoga classes, uplifting and strengthening Sports Yoga classes to incredibly immersive and powerfully healing Crystal Bowl Soundbaths.
